When three stripes become three ladies...
key learnings
Take material thickness into account when patterning—building a shoe out of cardboard meant that some pattern pieces no longer fit correctly after thick layers were added together. I could have oversized the patterns initially for test fitting before cutting the final pieces for assembly.
Rigid materials are difficult to shape—cardboard was tricky to form into curved surfaces, but creasing did improve some flexibility. Laminating a rigidly woven rice bag to craft foam also eliminated most of the foam’s stretching qualities. In both cases, the material itself was the highlight of the concept, so I might have split the pattern more in order to provide some strain relief.
